What Are Buildings Made Of?

Wood

Much of the original trading post of St. Louis was made of wood harvested on the site. After the Louisiana Purchase, the Americans brought with them techniques of frame construction. After a big part of downtown burned down in 1849, very few wooden buildings were constructed - and none close to downtown.
