People Name: Young, Thomas Crane Profession: Architect Category: Architecture, Politics and Government Born/Started: 1858 Description: Thomas Crane Young was a prominent St. Louis architect in the late 1800s. His work includes many private homes in the exclusive Vandeventer Place and other private streets of the Central West End, as well as the Cupples Warehouse complex and the Lincoln Trust Building (Title Guaranty). IN 1885, he formed a partnership with William S. Eames, which continued until Eames´ death in 1915. Young also served as mayor of Webster Groves, a St. Louis suburb, from 1901 to 1903 . He was president of the St. Louis Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 1909 and 1910. After Eames´ death he formed an office in Chicago with Alfred Granger. Young´s last St. Louis building (1921-26) was the Masonic Temple on Lindell, designed in collaboration with Albert B. Groves. |
