Description:    Hannah Hennessey founded the St. Louis Women´s Trade Union League (WTUL) in 1907. The WTUL spearheaded efforts to organize wage-earning women in the St. Louis area in the early 20th century. Women comprised 20% of the nation’s workforce and there were 6,000 women in St. Louis factories in 1907, but the AFL viewed women employees as temporary and unskilled and did not try to organize them.
