Description:    The May Department Stores which actually opened its first store in 1877 by David May in Leadville, Colorado, was incorporated in 1910. Corporate headquarters had moved to St. Louis in 1905 and had stores in several Colorado mining cities and Cleveland. Its first stores in Colorado catered to the mining population as it sold Levi overalls and red woolen underwear to miners. Currently, May Company is one of the nationĀ“s leading department stores with six regional department stores, including Famous-Barr, Lord and Taylor, and Hechts, and 11 trade names.
