Description:    Daniel M. Frost was the pro-southern commander of the state guard during the Civil War. A veteran of the Mexican War, he was related to several prominent Irish and French residents of St. Louis. He led a brigade as commander of the state guard, but retired to Canada before the end of the war. After the war, he returned to St. Louis, where he was active in public affairs.
