  Camp Jackson established
Category:  Politics and Government
Brief Description:  Pro-southern state guardsmen under General Daniel Frost established a camp near the present-day intersection of Grand and Pine. Missouri Governor Jackson ordered General Frost and the state guardsmen to St. Louis to try to take the St. Louis Arsenal. They found the arsenal already guarded by Federal troops and by the mostly German Home Guard, commanded by Colonel Nathaniel Lyon.
