Name:    Connor, Jeremiah
Description:    Jeremiah Connor was founder of the Erin Benevolent Society in 1819. An auctioneer by trade, he became sheriff and later collector and treasurer of St. Louis, serving from 1806 to 1810. He was very active in civic and church activities and, in 1818, invited a group of fellow Irishmen to form a benevolent society. In 1819 it was formed as the Erin Benevolent Society and Connor served as its first chairman.
