As an officer in the St. Louis and Missouri State Equal Suffrage League, she led demonstrations and lobbied officials and served as the first vice-chairwoman of the League of Women Voters. Gellhorn demonstrated leadership qualities early in life. She was president at Mary Institute and life president of the Bryn Mawr College Class of 1900. She was an officer in the St. Louis and Missouri State Equal Suffrage Leagues, later became president of the state chapter of the League of Women Voters. Later in life she reduced her league activities and joined Eleanor Roosevelt in support of the United Nations Association. She also helped found the Committee on Nuclear Information. |
