People Name: Leavell, Nancy Description: Dr. Nancy Leavell was the first woman doctor with a professional degree in medicine to arrive in St. Louis. She became physician-in-charge at the St. Louis Infirmary in 1880. Another physician had arranged for her to have an internship at his clinic and also helped her establish a private practice. Leavell was also a member of the St. Louis Woman Suffrage Association. |
