Name:    Fremont, Jessie Benton

Description:    Jessie Benton Fremont was the daughter of Missouri´s first U.S. senator, Thomas Hart Benton. She married John Freemont and played an active role in his efforts to hold St. Louis for the Union during the Civil War. She helped organize a soldier´s relief society and was instrumental in bringing Dorthea Dix to St. Louis. Dix recruited paid nurses for the City´s military hospitals.
