She aroused the interest of other black women in the community to create a home for orphans, half-orphans, neglected and dependent children. The Annie Malone ChildrenĀ“s Home was founded in 1888 as the St. Louis Colored Orphans Home and renamed in 1946 after Annie Turnbo Pope Malone provided a financial gift for the construction of a new building at it present site.
