History:
This statue of St. Louis´ founder Pierre Laclede was presented to the City on the 100th anniversary of its incorporation. The statue was donated by the St. Louis Centennial Association. Not a true likeness of Laclede, the statue shows him in 1769, stepping from his boat onto the river bank at St. Louis. The statue was unveiled in 1914.
