History:
This statue of St. LouisĀ“ founder Pierre Laclede was presented to the City on the 100th anniversary of its incorporation. The statue was donated by the St. Louis Centennial Association. Not a true likeness of Laclede, the statue shows him in 1769, stepping from his boat onto the river bank at St. Louis. The statue was unveiled in 1914.
