|   |   Name: City Hospital No. 2 Address: 2945 Lawton Ethnic Group: African-American History: City Hospital No. 2 was built as a hospital for African-Americans in St. Louis. It opened in 1919 at the site of the former Barnes Medical College (at the corner of Lawton and Garrison), and was one of the few hospitals in the United States that trained African-American physicians. It was replaced by the much larger Homer G. Phillips Memorial Hospital in 1937. |
