One of the first St. Louis buildings to have its front facade entirely clad in terra cotta.

"The building is of the modern, slow burning construction. It rises to a height of seven stories and is divided into two stores by a 40-foot court in the center, which is reached by a drive from Lucas Avenue. The seven-story mercantile building at 1015 Washington Avenue is significant not only as a fine example of turn of the century commercial architecture but also as an exemplar of the local crafts and trades which helped propel St. LouisĀ“ late nineteenth century growth into a major metropolis." [From the nomination to the National Register of Historic Places as prepared by Carolyn Hewes Toft, executive director, September, 1981.]
