Name: Edison Brothers Stores Company Building Address: 408 Washington Year: 1901 Architectural Firm/Architect: I.S. Taylor Alterations: Altered with armordized aluminum windows. Ground floor changed substantially. Ward: 7 Neighborhood: 35 History: Another structure called Verandah Row once occupied this site. Built in 1855, the building was torn down in 1900. It once housed the Missouri National Guard. The original structure by Taylor in 1901 was seven stories high. An eight-story addition was added in 1964 at a cost of $700,000. The lower string course is cast iron. The building has three projecting bays, each with an arched window. The building also has some ornate terra cotta work. |
