History:
Bryan Mullanphy left one-third ($200,000) of his estate to establish a fund to "provide relief to all poor emigrants passing through St. Louis to settle in the West." The home served as a place where emigrants could stay. When the need for the home passed, it was sold and subsequently served a variety of purposes.
