![]() Name: Lionberger, Isaac H. House Address: 3630 Grandel Square Year: 1886 Date of Demolition: Unknown Architectural Firm/Architect: Office of Henry Hobson R Dimensions: 55 ft. frontage, 60 ft. Alterations: Alterations on first floor windows and front doorway. Designation: City Landmark Neighborhood: 1 History: Designed by RichardsonĀ“s office in the year of his death, this house was probably the work of his successors, Shepley, Rutan and Coolidge. Richardson also designed the house of Isaac LionbergerĀ“s father in Vandeventer Place (d. 1949) and that of his sister at the southwest corner of Cabanne and Goodfellow (d.1959). Isaac was the son of John R. Lionberger, a well known St. Louis lawyer of the 19th century. The house on Delmar (now Grandel Square) was presented to Isaac Lionberger by his father at the time of his marriage to Louise Shepley in 1886. They occupied it until 1906, when it was sold. From 1917 to 1942 it was the location of the Benton College of Law. It is presently used as a labor union headquarters. An unusual architectural feature of the house is the slightly projecting second floor, which is supported by brick corbeling. |
