Description:    James E. Yeatman, along with William Greenleaf Eliot, founded the Western Sanitary Commission. He was also one of the founders of MerchantĀ“s Bank and was the first president of the Mercantile Library. President Lincoln offered to name him the head of the FreedmenĀ“s Bureau, but he declined.
