Name:    Halleck, Henry W.
Profession:  Politician
Description:    General Henry Halleck took command of the US Army’s Division of the West in 1861, at a time when St. Louis gearing up for civil war. He is best remembered as the man who declared martial law throughout Missouri, on December 26, 1861. Halleck also ordered the arrest of any woman who displayed the Confederate flag. (Gerteis, 174-77)
