Description:    Leopold Eidlitz was a New York architect who received the commission to design the Christ Church Cathedral at 12th and Locust, just across Missouri Park from exclusive Lucas Place. Eidlitz completed the English Gothic design and construction began in 1859. The church was not completed until 1867, however, because of the Civil War. Christ Church was named a cathedral in 1888.
