Name:    Clark, Meriwether Lewis
Description:    The son of famed explorer and Missouri Territory Governor William Clark, Meriwether Lewis Clark gained renown as a major in a corps of Missouri cavalry that was dispatched to New Mexico to protect American trade interests there in the 1840s. The corps succeeded in capturing Santa Fe without a fight, and established a model civilian government there.
