Description:    William H. Danforth II, the grandson of the founder of Ralston Purina, Is the former chancellor of Washington University. Dr. Danforth served as a doctor in the Navy, then returned to St. Louis and joined Washington University´s medical faculty in 1957. He became Chancellor of the University in 1971, an office he held for an unprecedented 24 years. Beloved by students, he Established the university as a world-class institution by promoting academic excellence while increasing the University´s endowment eleven fold. Dr. Danforth also donated the Tudor Gothic Chapel for the Pilgrim Congregational Church.
