Name:    Sylvester, Frederick Oakes
Category:  Cultural Life, Education
Description:    Frederick Oakes Sylvester arrived in St. Louis in 1892 at the age of 23 to become art director of the newly built Central High School. He also taught at Principia, a new school founded in 1898. He painted several renderings of the Mississippi River, one of which won a medal at the 1904 World´s Fair. His paintings are located in Carondolet Branch Library.
