Description:    Robert Mitchell was born in Kentucky in 1821 and moved to St. Louis in the 1840s. He designed the old Mercantile Library, which was demolished in 1887. He was also the architect for the Old Courthouse from 1851 to 1856. He died when returning from Europe in 1863 when his ship sank.
