Name:    Stix, Baer, & Fuller
Profession:  Merchant
Born/Started:     Sep. 01, 1892
Description:    In 1879, Julius and Sigmond Baer opened a drygoods store in Fort Smith, Arkansas. As business grew and they were joined by their brother-in-law, Aaron Fuller, the men decided to move to St. Louis and solicited the help of St. Louis civic leader, Charles A. Stix, on how to succeed in such a large and prosperous city. In 1892 they opened their first Stix, Baer, and Fuller store. Within five years they expanded into larger quarters. In 1952, Stix became a member of the New York Stock Exchange. In 1973, the retail establishment expanded into Kansas City, and eventually into Springfield, Illinois. They were bought out by the Arkansas based Dillards Department Store in 1984.[St. Louis Portrait, p. 230]
