The television station, originally named KSD, was the first in St. Louis and one of only seven in the country. It started with a program called "News and views", a 90-minute variety program and became known for shows like "St. Louis Hop." The station continued to expand its programming and news became a priority in the 1960s. The station developed an excellent reputation, and in 1983, was sold to Multimedia, Inc.
