People Name: The Daniel & Henry Company Profession: Merchant Born/Started: 1920 Detailed Description: In the early 1920s, Carl P. Daniel and Jesse P. Henry started an insurance company that was designed to be very different from existing competitors. The two entrepreneurs realized that sharing facilities and overhead expenses with other insurance brokers would be a more efficient way to operate. Each broker owned and serviced his own clientele. This strategy was very successful, and Daniel & Henry now represents many insurance companies including Ohio Casualty. In addition to insuring many St. Louis institutions, Daniel & Henry has been very active in the St. Louis Community. The company led an effort to restore the home of poet Eugene Field, which is now a museum of childhood life in the 1800s. [St Louis: Home on the River, page 292] |
