Name:    ACF Industries
Born/Started:    1899
Died/Ended:    1899
Description:    ACF Industries is a major St. Louis firm, serving customers in energy and industrial plastics markets as well as transportation. The firm was founded in 1899 when 13 separate railroad car building companies were combined into one enterprise.

All three of ACF’s transportation-related divisions are headquartered in the St. Louis area. The Amcar Division, which traces its roots to the St. Charles Car Manufacturing Company and the Missouri Car and Foundry Company, is still located in St. Charles along with the ACF Technical Center.

The Carter Automotive Group, which started as a small repair shop in 1902, is now the largest independent manufacturer of automotive fuel systems in the United States. Its manufacturing plant is located in St. Louis on Spring Avenue.

The third division, Shippers Car Line Division, is involved in freight and tank car leasing and is also located in St. Charles. [St. Louis Portrait, p. 194] http://www.acfindustries.com/
