Description:    President of the St. Louis Board of Aldermen from 1916 to 1923, Louis Aloe led the effort to redevelop Aloe Plaza. He was also president of the A.S. Aloe Company, a surgical supply firm.

During his tenure as president of the board of aldermen, Aloe’s efforts to redevelop the city blocks across from Union Station led to passage of a $87 million bond issue in 1923. The redevelopment plan called for widening Olive Street and developing plazas in the blocks bounded by Market, Chestnut, 12th (now Tucker Boulevard) and 20th Streets. After his death in 1929, the plaza directly across from Union Station was named in his honor.


Detailed Description:
Prominent politician Louis P. Aloe was also president of the A.S. Aloe Company, a surgical supply firm. He was President of the Board of Aldermen from 1916 to 1923.
