Description:    Dr. H. Phillip Venable was the director and section head of the department of ophthalmology at Homer G. Phillips from 1943 to 1979. Dr. Venable trained hundreds of students in ophthalmology at St. Louis and at Washington University. For many years he trained most of the minority students who became ophthalmologists in the country.
