People Name: Walton, Lester Category: Cultural Life Born/Started: 1882 Died/Ended: 1965 Description: Lester Walton was a journalist who was born in St. Louis and attended Sumner High School. He began his journalism career in 1902 with the St. Louis Star. He also worked for the St. Louis Globe Democrat and was one of the few black journalists working in a position other than a stringer. Walton also worked for the New York Age, the New York World, and the Herald Tribune. He also served as a diplomat to Liberia. |
