Born in Alton, IL, he grew up in East St. Louis. After graduating from high school, he attended the Juliard School of Music. He became well-known when his album, "The Birth of Cool," was released. This album featured both black and white musicians and started a new genre of jazz music. His experiences were detailed in Miles: The Autobiography (with Quincy Trouupe, Jr.). |
