Description:    After the Civil War, Robert E. Tansey moved to St. Louis and invested in river transport. He was president of the St. Louis Transfer Company and director of Wiggins Ferry Company. In 1871 he was elected president of the Merchants´ Exchange. One of the organizers of the Veiled Prophet Parades, he also headed the Knights of St. Patrick.
