Cyprian´s mother was a free woman of color and his father a white man. Cyprian was orphaned within days of his birth and his white guardian sent him out of Missouri in order to get him an education. He returned a cultivated and articulate young man and eventually wrote a book entitled "The Colored Aristocracy of St. Louis," which is available in public libraries. |
