  St. Louis Urban League Established
Brief Description:  The St. Louis chapter of the Urban League was established in 1917 as a result of a race riot that occurred in East St. Louis. The riot over jobs was one of 18 that occurred in East St. Louis from 1915 to 1919. The St. Louis Urban League was a multi-racial coalition whose mission was to improve race relations and expand opportunities for blacks.
