  First Public Transit System Established
Brief Description:  The first public transit system was an omnibus line established in 1843. It ran from the old National Hotel at Third and Market Streets to the North St. Louis ferry landing at Madison Street. By 1859, which was the last year of the system´s operation, the City had eleven omnibus lines reaching all main points of interest.
