Event: St. Louis Incorporated as a City Brief Description: The Missouri Legislature passed an act to incorporate St. Louis as a City on December 9, 1822. The legislation authorized a government structure with a mayor and nine aldermen. It was divided into three wards. The city limits began at the foot of Ashley Street, ran west to about Seventh and Carr Streets, then south along Seventh Street to Rutger and east to the river, embracing an area of 385 acres.
