Event:
  U.S. Arsenal Established in St. Louis
Brief Description:  In 1827, Congress passed an act authorizing a U.S. Arsenal at St. Louis. Construction began at what is now Second and Arsenal Streets in the same year. The site was then considered remote, as it was over a mile south of the city limits, and the only bridge crossing Mill Creek was on the unpaved road to Carondelet.
