Event:  St. Louis Selected as Site for 1904 World´s Fair
Brief Description:  In January of 1899, representatives from the states and territories of the Louisiana Purchase met in St. Louis and chose the City to host the Louisiana Purchase Exposition of 1904. A fundraising goal of $15 million was set for the event, an amount equal to that paid to Napoleon for the entire Louisiana Purchase.
