  Last Slave Auction in St. Louis

Brief Description:  The last slave auction in St. Louis took place on New Year´s Day 1861 on the steps of the Old Courthouse. Seven slaves were to be auctioned off, but the crowd refused to allow the price to rise above $8.00 per slave. The auctioneer finally gave up after several hours.
