  Pinckney Treaty of 1795
Brief Description:  The Pinckney Treaty of 1795 between Spain and the United States gave Americans free navigation on the lower Mississippi. This became invalid by 1800 when Spain secretly returned the Louisiana area to the French prior to the purchase of the Louisiana Territory by America.
