  St. Paul African Methodist Church Founded
Brief Description:  The St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME) was founded in 1840. It is the second-oldest black protestant church in St. Louis. During the period following the Civil War, the church helped to bridge the gap between slavery and citizenship by combining religious and social gospels. It also has a long history of establishing quality education for blacks.
