Event: Poro College Founded Brief Description: In 1900, Annie Malone started a small hair care products business in Lovejoy, IL. In 1918, she moved her burgeoning business to a complex at Pendleton and St. Ferdinand Avenues in St. LouisĀ“ Ville neighborhood. MaloneĀ“s business not only housed her hair care products but was also a school for beauticians, known as Poro College.
