  American Legion formed
Brief Description:  While the veterans had met in Paris, France on March 15-17, 1919, the American Legion name and the organization´s constitution were approved in St. Louis. So while the American Legion was conceived in France, it really was born in St. Louis on May 9, 1919. The American Legion Monument, across the street from the Soldier´s Memorial, at 1315 Chestnut Street in St. Louis, marks the exact location where veterans of World War I (American Expeditionary Force) began the American Legion.
