Event: Ralston Purina is Founded Brief Description: Ralston Purina Company was founded by William H. Danforth in 1894. He observed that “animals must eat the year round,” so in 1894 he went into the business of mixing formula feeds for farm animals. The Company became the world’s largest producer of dry dog foods and dry and soft-moist cat foods and a leading producer of cat box filler in the U.S. and Canada.
