Event: Sumner High School Relocates Category: African-American Experience, Education Brief Description: Sumner High School relocated from its original building at Eleventh and Spruce to a larger facility at Fifteenth and Walnut in 1895. The move was due in part to the compaints about the deteriorating condition of the original neighborhood. Although the new building was larger, it was still without an assembly hall, library, gymnasium and other facilities. Complaints about this lack of needed facilties led to the final move of Sumner High School to the Ville neighborhood in 1910.
