Event: 1935 Bond Issue Category: Politics and Government Brief Description: In February 1935, the second bond issue of the 1930s for Depression relief was passed. The measure provided $7.5 million which, together with $9 million in federal assistance, provided the funds for local workers to begin clearing a 40-block area on the riverfront. The site would eventually become the location of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial and Gateway Arch.
