Event: Bus System Started Category: Transportation and Infrastructure Brief Description: An omnibus line was started by Erastus Wells and Calvin Case using horse-drawn cars. The line started at Third and Market Streets and ran to the north side ferry landing at Madison Street. After five years of operation, Wells and four other operators had 17 buses going on 200 daily trips, carrying 3,840 people at 5 cents per ride. All five operators combined to make $67,000 annually.
