Event:
  First Police Force (Constabulary) Established
Brief Description:  An armed patrol (the constabulary) was established in 1811 by the board of trustees of the "Town of St. Louis." The patrol consisted of four men, on a rotating basis, who served without pay. Able male inhabitants over the age of eighteen were conscripted for patrol duty four months each year. The police force continued in this manner for 10 years [33].
