Event: Farris Appointed LCRA Director Category: Planning and Development Brief Description: Charles L. Fares was appointed executive director of the Land Clearance and Redevelopment Authority in December 1953 by Mayor Raymond R. Tucker and the board commissioners of the Authority. Fares came to St. Louis from Washington D.C. to administer the planning and execution of major community renewal undertakings within the City, with strong emphasis on the social as well as the economic aspects of urban revitalization. in 1956, Farris was appointed a commissioner on the board of City Plan Commission. Farris was reappointed as LCRA director in 1969 by the LCRA board of commissioners and Mayor A.J. Cervantes. He was charged with overseeing the City´s Urban Renewal Program.
